BOSTON, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2021 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships at Franklin Park on Saturday afternoon. The men placed third with 56 points in the 8K race while the women finished fourth with 92 points in the 6K event.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
Colby-Sawyer College swept the day with team wins on both the men's and women's sides. The Chargers' women totaled 52 points to finish well ahead of runner-up Simmons University, which tallied 72 points. Regis College (87 points), Saint Joseph's (92), Emmanuel College (97), Norwich University (128), Lasell University (179), University of Saint Joseph (228), and Dean College (272) rounded out this year's participating institutions.
Norwich freshman India Jones topped the 72-runner field with a 24:01 time en route to claiming GNAC Runner & Rookie of the Year accolades. Samantha Carus (Colby-Sawyer) placed second (24:25), Ashleigh Kelley (Regis) was third (24:30), Alice Najimy (Simmons) finished fourth (24:59), and Tessa Millette (Colby-Sawyer) capped the top five finishers with a 25:02 performance.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Junior Kelsey Kennedy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) garnered Second Team All-Conference honors with a 13th-place finish (26:14)
- Junior Caity Kendrick (Richmond, Maine) was 15th (27:10)
- Senior Emma Allen (Jefferson, Maine) placed 18th (27:27)
- Senior Julia Heroux (Albion, R.I.) finished 25th (28:24)
- Senior Carly Jordan (Turner, Maine) was 26th (28:33)
- Senior Samantha VanDeMoere (Thornton, N.H.) placed 30th (29:16)
- Freshman Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) was 41st (31:33)
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
Colby-Sawyer claimed the men's title with 44 points, just five ahead of runner-up Norwich University. Saint Joseph's (56 points), Regis (106), University of Saint Joseph (134), and Dean College (138) comprised the group of six teams competing in this year's championship.
Colby-Sawyer freshman Dylan Flewelling eclipsed the 63-runner field with a 28:04 time, just 17 seconds ahead of SJC senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine), who placed second with a 28:21 effort. With the individual win, Flewelling claims GNAC Runner & Rookie of the Year honors.
Colby Makin (Norwich) finished third (28:58), Braeden Laframboise (USJ) was fourth (29:01), and SJC senior Jacob Huberdeau (Atkinson, N.H.) placed fifth with a 29:22 time.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Hendricks and Huberdeau claimed First Team All-GNAC honors after finishing second (28:21) and fifth (29:22), respectively
- Sophomore Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) posted a 15th place finish (30:50)
- Senior Tyler Nadeau (Farmingdale, Maine) placed 18th (31:14)
- Junior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) finished 19th (31:24)
- Freshman Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) was 22nd (31:38)
- Senior Cameron Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) placed 58th (39:22)
- Senior Shawn Breen (Ashland, N.H.) finished 61st (44:32)

Saint Joseph's concludes the 2021 season with an appearance in the 2021 NCAA DIII New England Championships at Harkness Memorial Park in Waterford, Connecticut on Saturday, November 13th.
