Monks Defeat Seawolves 8-4

The Saint Joseph's College Monks faced off against the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves on Saturday January 18th at Bridgton Academy Ice Arena. The Monks tallied the first goal of the contest 53 seconds in when sophomore Mario Lemieux (Biddeford, Maine) accepted a pass from line mate Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) and fired a shot past the Seawolves goaltender Owen Kimmel. The Seawolves answered when Sean McLaughlin scored a power play goal at 9:02. Saint Joseph's notched another one on a shot by Sean Costa (Burlington, Mass.) assisted by Mark LaPierre (Wayland, Mass.) before the period came to a close.

The Monks ran play in the second period, scoring four goals in just over five minutes. Tom Crawford (Westbrook, Maine) and Billy Cooke (Pelham, NH) each had a goal apiece and Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) had two goals to put Saint Joseph's ahead 6-1 heading into the third. At the halfway mark, freshman John Marcous (Turner, Maine) took over between the pipes for sophomore Jimmy Riley (Dedham, Mass.).

The Seawolves scored just over two minutes into the third period when Tim Romano put one past Marcous to make it 6-2. Saint Joseph's answered quickly just 49 seconds later on a goal scored by freshman Brandon Ward (Houlton, Maine). The Monks notched another at 12:38 when senior Mat Gordon put it past the Seawolves netminder while on a power play. The Seawolves scored twice more before the game concluded. The final score was 8-4 in favor of Saint Joseph's College. The Monks play next on Thursday night versus Thomas College at 8:30pm. The game will be played at Bridgton Academy Ice Arena.
