Monks drub Eagles, 11-5

TYNGSBORO, Massachusetts- Saint Joseph's College Men's Club Hockey team scored seven first period goals and never looked back from there, on their way to a 11-5 victory of the Eagles of Daniel Webster College. The win was the first of the 2014-2015 season for the Monks and their first as a member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

Zack Graham (Marlborough, Mass) put the Monks onto the board less than three minutes into the game, with his first goal of the game just two minutes and 59 seconds into the period. Less than a minute and a half later, Corey Brown (Biddeford, Maine) slide the puck past the Eagles net-minder for his first collegiate goal. Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass) would then net two goals in a span of two-minutes and 20 seconds to put the Monks up 4-0.  Goals by Sean Costa (Burlington, Mass), Corey Brown, and Zack Graham would put the Monks up 7-0 heading into the first intermission.
The Eagles battled back to start the 2nd period netting three goals in a span of two minutes and 45 seconds, to shrink the Monks lead to four. Mike Viola was able to slip a shot past Monks net minder Jimmy Riley, who was screened on the play, to get the Eagles onto the board. The boys in blue would kick it back into gear to finish the game off. Charlie Fleming (Bronx, N.Y.) would net his first collegiate goal and point in the second period, sending the puck into the back of the net on a saucer pass from Mark LaPierre (Wayland, Mass).
 
Brandon Ward (Houlton, Maine), Billy Cooke (Pelham, NH), and Zack Graham would net third period goals, as the Monks would pull away from the Eagles. Saint Joseph's held a 46-35 shot advantage throughout the game, as net minder Jimmy Riley (Dedham, Mass) led the way with 30 saves for his first career ACHA victory.
 
With the victory, the Monks improve their record to 1-1-1 this season and will return to action this Saturday as they travel to Flynn Rink to faceoff against the Jumbo's of Tufts University at 6pm.
