Monks Take Down Eagles 8-4

In the final contest of the season, the Saint Joseph's College Monks defeated the Husson University Eagles by a score of eight to four. The Monks scored first just four minutes into the opening stanza when freshman Sean Costa (Burlington, Mass.) broke across the blue line and fired a shot low glove side that beat the Eagles' netminder. Husson knotted the score at one just over two minutes later when Chance Everett ripped a shot past the glove of sophomore Jimmy Riley (Dedham, Mass.). The Eagle's notched another when on a power play about half way through the period when Baxter Parent tipped a Tyler Shanklin shot into the back of the net. They struck once more about two minutes later to take a three to one lead. Erik Ogren received a pass from Corey Palmer, broke into the Monks defensive zone and fired a shot that beat Riley glove side. The Monks struck once more in the first to shorten the gap to one. On the power play, Costa dished a pass to Brandon Ward (Houlton, Maine) who fired a shot toward the net that was tipped in by freshman Jack Gordon (Hingham, Mass.). The period concluded and the score remained three to two in favor of the Eagles.

Just 3:47 into the second period, Ryan Berard (Millville, MA) passed the puck cross-crease to sophomore Mario Lemieux (Biddeford, Maine) who redirected the puck into the net. Husson took a four to three lead when a shot from Cory Palmer was deflected into the Monks net at 6:47. The Monks continued to battle and tied the game at four when Lemieux accepted a drop pass from senior Nick Chenette (Bedford, NH) and rifled a shot past the glove of Eagles' goaltender Douglas Dieuveuil. Saint Joseph's struck again with just 12.8 seconds remaining in the period, when Lemieux buried his third goal of the game assisted by Jack Gordon and Ryan Berard. The Monks gained the lead for the first time in the game.

Just over four minutes into the final stanza, Berard scored his first goal of the game to take a two-goal lead over the Eagles. Shortly after, Chenette notched his first goal of the season as he accepted a pass from Berard and shot the puck into the back of the net. The Monks were not quite done. The final goal of night came when Paulo Lopes (Gloucester, Mass.) netted his first collegiate goal with just under a minute remaining.

Husson University's goaltender Dieuveuil made 22 saves in the contest. Saint Joseph's netminder Riley made 32 saves. The Monks conclude their season with a .500 record with five wins and five losses.
