2014-15 Club Men's Hockey Preview

STANDISH, Maine - The 2014-2015 Men's Club Hockey schedule has been released. The Monks, led by second-year Head Coach Chris Quattrucci '13, joined the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) last spring and feature a docket of 10 competitions with 4 home contests this winter as an associate league member.

After playing previous seasons as an independent team, the Monks joined the ACHA and will play within Northeast Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA). Other teams include Tufts University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Western Connecticut State University, Springfield College, Lyndon State College, Thomas College, and the University of New England.

The puck drops on November 1st for the Monks, as they host University of New England Nor'easters at 4pm at the Bridgton Ice Arena on the campus of Bridgton Academy. A string of away games follows the Monks, as they take to the road for five consecutive away contests beginning at Thomas College (Nov. 7th).

A healthy sized roster of returners and new members brings high expectations for the Monks this winter. Jimmy Riley (Dedham, Mass) returns to the net and looks to see a majority of the minutes this season, backed up by freshman Kaleb Kane (Waterville, Maine). Offensively, the Monks will look towards returners Mario Lemieux (Biddeford, Maine), Ryan Berard (Millvile, Mass.), and Jack Gordon (Hingham, Mass.) to lead the team on attack backed by a solid supporting cast featuring plenty of new talent. Newcomers, junior Zack Graham (Marlborough, Mass.) and freshman Charlie Flemen (Bronx, N.Y.), will look to add talent to the top six forward combination.

Transfer students Jason Riley (Dedham, Mass) and Evan Baggs (New Gloucester, Maine) join the Monks, and look to make an immediate impact to the team with their strength and speed. Freshman Corey Brown (Biddeford, Maine) will add depth on the defensive end of the ice, surrounding top defensemen Billy Cooke (Pelham, N.H.), Colby Main (Jericho, Vt.) and Sean Costa (Burlington, Mass).

Ending last season with 5 wins and 5 loses, the Monks look to improve their record this winter and take another step forward for their program. Returning a strong core of players, and adding new talent, the Monks have their eyes set on making a name for themselves in their first year in the ACHA.
